Funnies: nighttime prayers
Most nights at bedtime, my daughter and I say prayers together. She loves to start by saying the “Dear Lord” intro (I get yelled at if I try to start) and then I continue on with the grateful moments from our day, etc. Sometimes she copies me or chimes in with her own prayers. So many nights, God just has to be smiling and laughing at what she says and my responses! Here’s a little snippet from the other night…
“Mom, how does God get in my heart? Does he just climb through my skin and jump into my heart? Can Jesus walk up my throat?!”
“Oh honey, God’s spirit, the Holy spirit lives in your heart.”
“What’s a spirit?”
“Well…it’s kind of like an angel that that’s always with you.”
“But how does it get into my heart?”
<I was going to start explaining Jesus on the cross, dying for our sins…yeah, no frickin’ way right now with how this convo is going>
“Mommy knows that spirit is with her when she’s praying and feels goosebumps.”
“Mom, do I get goosebumps? Wait, what is a spirit?!”
…
Note to self: I think I need to do some research on how to explain God/Jesus/the Holy Spirit to a 3 year old.
